Walbridge, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Residents at Owens Lake Commons in Walbridge are picking up after an EF2 tornado in Wood County left some Owens student athletes without a home.

Toledo News Now's certified most accurate weather team predicted that the storm would sweep through the area, not giving residents much time to think about what to do. Now some students at Owens Community College say they are thankful to be alive because they were just seconds away from ending up under a pile of debris.

"We ran to the bathroom," said Blaze Hogan. "We literally dove into the downstairs bathroom. We had about six or seven of us, and we shut the door, and that's when everything started coming down."

Hogan says Mother Nature showed him just what she can do in the blink of an eye.

"The moment where we thought stuff was going to happen was [when] we looked out the back door and we saw the pond water spraying onto the other houses," he said.

Then the wind came.

"We saw birds just being thrown, and we were just like, ‘That's not good.' We look left and you just saw a bunch of debris."

The roof of the house that Hogan shared with roommates was torn off and slammed down.

"If we'd have looked out three seconds later, all the debris would have fallen on us, because we were right behind that door," he said.

Hogan and others displaced by the storm will stay in other apartments in the complex for now.
