CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Local woman Nicole Gross, survivor of the Boston Marathon Bombing, attended the Thunder Road Marathon on Saturday with her family.

Gross and her husband suffered burns from the bomb blasts in April.

Nicole's sister Erika Brannock of Baltimore lost part of her left leg and would be fitted with an artificial limb.

Brannock participated in the 5k event.

With the help of a walker, Brannock got through the last fifty feet of the race one step at a time.

Nicole's husband Michael Gross joined extended family in cheering on Saturday's events.

Nicole and her sister told WBTV on Saturday "We are not scared. We are not afraid to get back out there,"

Family members who talked to local media representatives said they all plan on being back in Boston for next year's marathon.
