CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police say two suspects broke into Missionary Baptist Church on Farmhurst Drive around 5:15 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a breaking and entering call and found Darren Spann and Iris Rainer inside the church according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

CMPD says the suspects got into the church through a window and were taken into custody.

The pair admitted to forcing their way into the church in order to steal items, detectives say.

Spann is charged with felony breaking and entering (place of worship/intent to remove property) as well as obstruct and delay for giving fictitious identity information to officers according to police.

Investigators say Rainer is charged with felony breaking and entering (place of worship/intent to remove property).

Both suspects are in custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
