Neighbors in one part of Charlotte say vagrants are breaking into cars and spending the night inside. WBTV spoke to residents in the Fourth Ward where police have seen this happen.
The victims didn't want to talk on camera, but one told us he came outside in the morning to find the soft top of his Jeep cut open. He says there was evidence someone spent the night inside. Another neighbor says she opened her car door, and someone jumped out the passenger side and ran down the street.
"You kind of feel violated because somebody was in your car going through your stuff," said neighbor Tracy Chandonnet. She says someone broke inside her car, not to sleep, but to steal some change.
Chandonnet and neighbor Ryan Comen say they've seen more car break-ins in the last few months, than ever before. Both tell us they've also seen a rise in vagrants in the area.
"I see them walking around," Comen said.
Police say it's important to lock your car, and park it in a place with good lighting.
