Overnight: Death toll in the Philippines increases from super typhoon

Hello. It's Christine Nelson. Today is Friday, November 15. I'm sending you this email to personally invite you to watch WBTV News This Morning from 4:30-7:00 a.m. A lot of news happened overnight while you were sleeping. So we want to make sure you're caught up to start your day.

Typhoon Haiyan

More news coming out of the Philippines this morning. The death toll from Typhoon Haiyan has risen to more than 3,600. We have the latest on a group gathering at Charlotte Airport this morning to help in relief efforts.

We heard a lot of you sound off about traffic issues you ran into when Vice President Joe Biden landed in Charlotte last night and made his way through the city in his motorcade. You may run into that problem again today when he goes to two different fundraisers. WBTV's Cam Man Ron Lee will tell you what's on his agenda in a live report.

VIDEO ALERT: Incredible video to show you from the Linville Gorge. That's where that wildfire is burning and has charred 1,800 acres. We have a unique video of what firefighters are currently battling. It's probably at a vantage point you have never seen before!

Also, Astrid Martinez has a story you will see only on WBTV. It's how students are applying their academics to help with a problem at their school.

Your first alert weather and traffic are never more than 7 minutes away. The whole gang is here for the most reliable news/weather/traffic updates.

See you on the air!
