South Charlotte wreck knocks out power to more than 500 customers

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

An accident in south Charlotte knocked out power to more than 500 people Thursday evening.

The incident happened on the 1000 block of Edgehill Road, near East Morehead Street and Queens Road, shortly before 9:30 p.m.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police told WBTV that a utility truck hit a power pole, knocking a transformer down into nearby trees.

According to Duke Energy's website, more than 500 power outages were reported after the accident. As of 10 p.m., that number was down to 229 customers.

Officials from Duke Energy said they are working on replacing the pole, and that all customers will have power restored once the work is complete.
