Country music superstar and reigning "Dancing with the Stars" champ Kellie Pickler is back in North Carolina.
At least for a few days.
"Friday will be my first time since American Idol that I've been able to go home and do an album signing in my hometown Walmart," she said. "I can't wait to get back to Albemarle."
Anchor Molly Grantham sat down with the 27-year-old Thursday afternoon at the Belmont Walmart, where she had a crowded signing. The album is called "The Woman I Am." It was released nationally on Monday.
"I just want my music to make people happy," she said. "There's so much healing and so much closure you can find in a great song. And country music in particular is all about story-telling and that's what I like to do in my music, to tell stories."
She says her husband, songwriter Kyle Jacobs, and family are the most important things in her life. But when asked about having children…
"Not anytime soon! We're not planning that anytime soon," she said. "I feel like I'm young – 27 – and I've got the rest of my life if we choose to have children."
She also said it was important to remain true to yourself. That in today's entertainment world it's easy to get lost. Molly then asked about this week's negative headlines about Miley Cyrus.
"When I look at someone like Miley, I think she's a doll baby," Kellie said. "I think she grew up in the industry. It's hard as a kid growing up in front of the world. She's not really doing anything else any girl her age hasn't done. She's just under a microscope. More people are watching."
Kellie's new album is called "the Woman I Am." A title she calls fitting.
"It has strong songs," she said. "And bold statements. This is who I am. Love me or don't, that's alright."
