Man arrested for fatal Charlotte motel shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Charlotte say they have arrested a man they believe to be responsible for a shooting at a west Charlotte hotel that left one man dead.

The incident was reported at the Airport Inn on the 2400 block of Wilkinson Boulevard at 3:02 a.m., according to a release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police say 51-year-old Gerald Kirkland was found inside the motel suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on scene by Medic crews.

During the investigation, detectives soon named Cremlen Glenn Ogarro, 37, as the suspect in the shooting.

Ogarro was located around 3 p.m. on the 4400 block of South Tryon Street and taken to police headquarters to be interviewed by detectives. He was then arrested and charged with first degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to call 704-432-TIPS of Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
