Emergency crews are investigating an incident in east Charlotte after a driver reportedly ran over a sheriff's deputy and his motorcycle during a traffic stop.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers were called out to Albemarle Road and E. WT Harris Boulevard in reference to a Mecklenburg County Sheriff Deputy on a motorcycle that was involved in a hit and run.
Sheriff's Office officials say Deputy Billy Allen was on a motorcycle going down WT Harris when a vehicle, driven by Danny Lehman, 47, veered over and gave him the impression that he would be hit.
The deputy then moved out of the way and flashed the blue lights to stop Lehman.
Sheriff's officials say Lehman stopped, but then backed up and ran over the deputy and his motorcycle before driving away.
As the Lehman drove away, Deputy Allen fired three shots, hitting the vehicle windows, officials said.
After a short pursuit, Lehman was found on Farm Pond Lane by ALE Officers who witnessed the incident. He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for a blood alcohol test.
Deputy Allen, who is a 13-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office and has been a motor officer since 2007, was taken to Novant Presbyterian Medical Center to be treated for injuries.
