Campus police are investigating after racial slurs were found written on an office door on the campus of Gardner-Webb University.

According to university officials, campus police were notified on Thursday morning around 9:30 a.m. about the posting of a racial slur outside of an office door in Craig Hall.

Craig Hall, which is located on the Boiling Springs campus, is the home to the university's English, Education, and Learning Assistance Programs.

Officials say the slur was written on the dry erase board of an adjunct professor's office.

According to university police, it does not look like the slur was targeted at someone specific. It is believed to be a random act.

"Whether random or targeted, there is no place for disparaging language or actions intended to cause harm to others based on their race, religion, culture or other differences," school officials told WBTV.

University police are investigating the incident.
