CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - There's a sneak thief plaguing the Ballantyne area.
Police are on the hunt for a well-dressed man who walks in office building during the middle of the business day, looking for unattended purses and other personal valuables.
"And it's been happening for months," says CMPD Detective Marty Cuthbertson. "As we look and see him on the camera, he's real distinctive."
He's very distinctive on the video surveillance. He wears nice clothes and has a long beard.
"This has happened at least three times and each time he steals items from the purses, credit cards, and he goes to Walmart and makes purchases."
Walmart supplied a picture of the man after he used stolen credit cards to buy things. Again, he's well-dressed, wearing a dress shirt and tie. But is he the same thief?
"It's absolutely, positively the same guy."
Because there are more than 600 surveillance cameras in the Ballantyne area, the crook was caught wandering through different office buildings.
"Nobody paid him any attention and he didn't run, he just got what he wanted and walked out."
The offices in Ballantyne want this sneak thief stopped. If you know who he is, if you can offer some helpful information, call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600. You don't have to leave your name, you could earn some extra cash.
