Troopers: After chase driver flees hospital, still at large

Troopers are looking for the driver of a Mercedes Benz who fled the hospital after an alleged chase with law enforcement about 12:40 a.m. Saturday morning.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says they clocked Joanquil Thompson going 92 miles per hour in a posted 60 miles per hour zone heading north on I-85 near Beatties Ford Road.

Troopers say the car failed to heed the emergency equipment and a chase ensued.

Troopers chased Thompson for about six minutes and attempted to use a P.I.T maneuver near the intersection of Remount Road and Wilkinson Boulevard to stop him, investigators say.

After the maneuver was attempted, Thompson traveled about 100 feet and struck a light pole.

Investigators say Thompson attempted to run away but was caught after troopers used a taser.

Thompson was transported to Carolinas Medical Center to be treated for his injuries according to Highway Patrol.

Troopers say Thompson fled from the hospital and is still at large.

Highway Patrol is in the process of obtaining warrants for Felony Speeding to Elude, Speeding 92 mph in a 60 mph zone, Reckless Driving and Driving While Impaired, investigators say.
