CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - An armed man makes a fashion faux pas which may lead to his arrest.
It was just after 6:00AM when a heavily disguised robber with a large black handgun burst into the Circle-K convenience store on Little Rock Road.
The bleary eyed clerks were terrified as this nightmare pointed his gun and demanded money.
They couldn't act fast enough, so this impatient crook quickly escalated his threat.
"He jumped the counter and said, 'look, I want the money from the cash box right here in the front and from the cash box in the back.'"
CMPD Detective Marty Cuthbertson says, "that indicates to me that he had some knowledge what was going on inside that business.
And why is the detective so sure the robber had some deeper connection to the store?
"Somebody who had that information had to have had knowledge-- had worked there or knew someone who worked there who told him about those two cash locations."
He got his cash and left quickly. But there was something about the way he was dressed that caught the eye of the detective.
"One thing that was very distinctive about his jacket-- he had an emblem of a school, Johnson C. Smith University."
"Maybe somebody will see those clothes or the items he had on and call in and tell us who he was."
If you know anything about the man in the college jacket, call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600 and you could earn cash in complete anonymity. We don't want your name, we want your information.
