Bail reduction denied for a man who got Halloween week off to a frightening start.

Police say Edward Russ intended to steal prescription drugs from the CVS pharmacy in Belmont with a rifle. they say he held three hostages and fired at police when they arrived.  Russ gave himself up and was jailed on kidnapping, robbery and attempted murder charges.

Today in court, Russ' father said, "The best thing I can tell you is that this what happened is the direct opposite of who he is. I can't make excuses. I don't know what happened."  The judge would not lower his $5Million bond.

We're also looking into the background of the ride operator now blamed for causing the accident at the State Fair. Timothy Tutterrow is accused of bypassing safety measures on the Vortex ride which sent five people to the hospital.

Just in from Rock Hill-- eleven students from Winthrop were pistol whipped and robbed of their iPhones over the weekend.

Penn State University will pay out millions to the 26 men who were sexually victimized by former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Sandusky will be in jail for the next 30-60 years.

Also, unusually bad weather in jolly old England. Hurricane conditions have already killed 13 and knocked out power to a quarter million people.
