Police: Man attacked by suspect in clown costume at Taco Bell

Police responding to a disturbance call in Battle Ground found an unconscious man suffering from serious head injuries outside Taco Bell.

Officers were called to the scene on the 1700 block of West Main Street at 2 a.m. Sunday. Police said the victim, a 27-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital.

A declaration of probable cause document states the victim was with his girlfriend at the Taco Bell restaurant. She told police that two men in a blue pickup had been arguing with them in the drive-thru line.

After they received their food, the couple pulled around the parking lot and again saw the blue truck. The woman told police the two men got out and exchanged words with her boyfriend, who also exited his vehicle.

According to court documents, the passenger in the truck was wearing a clown costume and punched the victim, who fell to the ground and hit his head on the concrete. The two men then ran back to their truck and drove away.

Detectives located and arrested the suspect, Lance Cormican, 24, of Battle Ground, at 3:20 a.m. He is charged with second-degree assault.

Another witness recorded the incident with his cell phone. That witness gave the video to police, according to court documents, and it reportedly showed Cormican punching the victim, while the victim was facing the driver of the truck.

Cormican told police he punched the man because he felt threatened by him, according to court documents.

Police said the clown costume was found at Cormican's uncle's house.

The victim was taken to the intensive care unit with skull fractures, possible nerve damage, loss of hearing and paralysis to the left side of his face, according to a probable cause document.

Battle Ground police are asking anyone with information about this case to call detectives at 360-342-5200.
