CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating a man they say is wanted for cutting off his electronic monitor.

Tomonta Simmons, 21, is wanted by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) for outstanding warrants for interfering with an electronic monitoring device and multiple counts of felony probation violation.

On August 18, Simmons was released from jail and court-ordered on electronic monitoring. Police say he cut off that monitor on Sept 26, near the 2300 block of Eargle Road.

Simmons has previously been arrested for felony drug, larceny from auto, assault, and weapon charges in Mecklenburg County.

He is described as a black male, 6'3" tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds.

Anyone with information on Simmons' whereabouts should immediately contact the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) at (704)336-VCAT or call 911.
