Hundreds of Middle Tennessee families received big donations Wednesday thanks to Feed the Children.
The nonprofit partnered with Elijah's Heart to donate food and essentials to 800 preselected families.
Each family received a 25-pound box filled with food and 10 pounds worth of personal care and hygiene items, like toilet paper and soap.
Feed the Children says the donations are meant to help lift local families out of poverty.
"Hunger exists throughout the year. It's not just a need that happens around Thanksgiving and Christmas but is something that families struggle with on a daily basis, especially in economically challenging times," said Erin Engelke, with Feed the Children.
Feed the Children opened a new distribution center in La Vergne this week.
The center also features a teacher store, where Rutherford County teachers who work at schools with Title One designations can shop for free school supplies.
