Q-City Charlotte BBQ Competition kicks off

Charlotte's BBQ Battle

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The fires are hot and the meat is on at the 11th Annual Q-City Charlotte BBQ Competition in Uptown Charlotte.

The festival celebrates the best of Charlotte barbeque and the best of the professional competitors.

Friday morning near the 300 block of South Tryon, the smokers were billowing out the sweet smell of beef, pork and chicken.

The competition offers more than $35,000 in cash prizes for winners, and another chance at glory for the teams who've been bitten by the contest bug. "Eventually you know exactly what those judges are looking for and how they're looking for it," said Ernie Adler.

The event runs until 11PM Friday night with food, vendors and live music. It all ends Saturday at 6:30PM with the crowning of a Grand Champion and other category prizes.
