WEST END, OH (FOX19) -

Fire personnel say that 55 firefighters and 14 companies responded to a massive fire on Sunday in Cincinnati's West End.

The fire broke out around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday night in a vacant building near the intersection of York Street and Freeman Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke coming from the third floor attic of the building. Firefighters say the building adjacent to the fire was threatened by the blaze. The building next to it was occupied at the time.

Crews on the scene say that they fought the fire defensively due to the rapid nature in which the fire was spreading. Firefighters say that the third floor of the building collapsed in the blaze.

Officers on the scene say that the building is cracked and is in danger of possibly collapsing. Firefighters also say that the building will likely have to be torn down following the blaze.

Authorities say that 16 people were displaced by the blaze. No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced.
