Crossing Guard brings smiles to the street

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC (WBTV) - It was almost 3 years ago when Eddie Lockhart got the call. "They asked me if I would come back as a crossing guard and I said yes."

He was retired from Cleveland County Schools at that time, but decided retirement was for the birds.

Now 75 years old, "Mr. Eddie" has made quite the name for himself right out in front of Kings Mountain Middle School.

"He's always got a wave," said one parent. "He always asks us how are day was," said a student.

5 days a week, Mr. Eddie is in front of the school safely shuffling kids across the street to and from school. His shifts only last about 30 minutes at a time, but in that time he brings a lot of smiles to his workplace.

"I just love all my babies," said Mr. Eddie, referring to the handful of kids he helps stop traffic for. Students, parents and teachers alike say Mr. Eddie is an inspiration with his happy attitude, his smile, and his stop sign.
