Furloughed workers return to MCAS Beaufort

MCAS Beaufort have asked furloughed employees to return to work no later than their first shift Tuesday. The recall has been issued based on guidance from the Secretary of Defense and Headquarters Marine Corps.

The recall involves bringing 177 federal employees back to the Air Station and 230 Marine Corps Community Services employees to the Air Station and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.

"All MCAS Beaufort employees perform work that is essential to the long-term strength of the Air Station.  I am glad they have returned to helping defend this Nation and securing our future," said Col. Brian C. Murtha, MCAS Beaufort commanding officer, in a statement.

Those civilian personnel asked to return to work met the criteria outlined in the "Pay Our Military" Act based on the functions they perform, according to a news release.

All facilities and services are expected to be open when the recall process is complete, according to a MCAS news release. The commissary is back to normal business hours.
