Lockdown lifted at CPCC Merancas, Lake Norman Charter after report of gun on campus

Lockdowns have been lifted at a campus of Central Piedmont Community College and Lake Norman Charter schools after reports of a gun on the campus.

According to CPCC officials, the north campus - CPCC Merancas-  was placed on lockdown on Wednesday morning. Lockdown was lifted after noon on Wednesday. 

The same thing happened at Lake Norman Charter Schools which are located near the college campus.

CPCC Merancas is located off Verhoeff Drive in Huntersville, near Interstate 77, exit 23.

According to Huntersville Police, a student was in the parking lot on campus Wednesday morning and reported seeing two white males getting out of a tan Dodge Stratus armed with guns.

The student reported the sighting to campus officials and police were notified.

According to CPCC's Merancas Campus' Facebook page, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police cleared CPCC to end the shelter in place request.

Operations have resumed back to normal at the campus.

So far police have not been able to locate either of the men described or the tan Dodge Stratus on campus. Huntersville Police are continuing to investigate the situation.

CPCC-Merancas and the Lake Norman Charter Schools, which are located near the campus, were temporarily locked down as a precaution.
