Police: 3 Arrested after shots fired at officers during chase

Three people are in custody after an officer involved shooting in the 1800 block of North Tryon Street.

Police responded to a call at 3:55 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The caller stated they saw people sitting in a vehicle loading guns, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

When officers arrived on the scene and exited their patrol cars, the trio shot at them according to police.

Officer Anthony Holzhauer and Officer David Sussman returned fire on the men before they drove away in the vehicle.

Other officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the men would not pull over.

Police then followed them into Cabarrus County and were able to stop the vehicle with the aid of the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office.

Police said in a statement that three people are in custody and two firearms were found inside the vehicle.

Those three people, later identified as Ramar Crump, 23, Warren Lewis, 26, and Jamel Lewis, 24, were all taken to police headquarters where they were interviewed by detectives.

As a result of the interviews, they were each charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of assault with a firearm on a government official, and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

CMPD said no one was injured during the exchange of gun fire or the vehicle pursuit.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.
