CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A major humanitarian effort is underway in West Charlotte. Volunteers for Habitat for Humanity are celebrating the group's 30th anniversary by building a home from the ground up in 30 hours.

The effort got underway at six Friday morning. About 100 volunteers are picking up hammers, nails, sheet rock, doors and other materials to build a house for a deserving family in the Reid Park community.

Habitat has helped more than 1,200 families in it's 30 years of service.
