Dancing in the streets in Downtown Monroe

Feeling the music in Monroe

If you're in the downtown Monroe area anytime during a work day, you can hear oldies, pop, country, jazz, 80's, and hip-hop music piped through large speakers hung on light posts.

The idea came as a part of the area's revitalization efforts and to encourage a little cheer amongst sidewalk-walkers.

Brian Bourne, Assistant City Manager, says the music runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Well it just adds to the whole experience of being downtown," Bourne said. "It might brighten their day."

And we found, it does seem to add a little perk to the step of many of the people we saw in downtown on Thursday.
