Former coach admits to sexual activity with student, police say

A former Charlotte middle school coach has been charged with sex crimes with an underage student.

George Mobley, 50, a former volunteer middle school coach with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is charged with sexual activity by school personnel, indecent liberties with a minor and providing alcohol to a minor, according to a news release from the Charloote-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The victim reported that she had met Mobley several years ago when he was a volunteer coach at her middle school.

During the course of a friendship that lasted several years, they had engaged in sexual contact, according to the release.

Mobley also gave the victim an alcoholic beverage to drink during one of their encounters.  

Mobley was interviewed by detectives and admitted to engaging in sexual activity while the victim was a student and he was a coach. 

Mobley turned himself in at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. 

Mobley is no longer employed by Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. CMS has been made aware of this incident, police say. 

Detectives say there is currently no information that leads detectives to believe any further indecent liberties with children have occurred.
