Police in Rock Hill have arrested the store clerk who reported a robbery at his convenience store Monday morning.

Investigators say he and another man staged the entire thing.

Avery Greenwood, 19, of Rock Hill, is charged with criminal conspiracy and filing a false police report.

Police originally arrested Antonio Kelton Crawford, 21, around noon the same day as the reported robbery.

The incident happened Monday just before 3:30 a.m. at the Kangaroo-Marathon gas station on S. Herlong Avenue.

Police responded to the store after Greenwood called to report he had just been robbed.

He told police that a black male had come into the store armed with a handgun demanding money.

The robber walked behind the counter and told Greenwood to put numerous amounts of Black and Mild and Newport cigarettes in a black book bag. He then demanded money from both registers be put in the bag as well, the report states.

The robber then tried pushing buttons on the time lock safe to get more money before forcing Greenwood into the office and leaving the scene.

Police spoke to two other witnesses at nearby businesses who saw the man enter and leave the store.

After reviewing the surveillance video and interviewing the witnesses, police arrested Crawford around noon.

Crawford was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Greenwood was arrested Tuesday.
