Second man arrested in murder at east Charlotte apartment


Police in Charlotte say a second man has been arrested in a deadly shooting at an east Charlotte apartment complex last week.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers arrested 20-year-old Shagarean Marquis Baker on Sunday evening. Baker has been charged in the death of 27-year-old Zhonton Zhavet Berry.

Officers say Berry was found fatally shot along the 7000 block of Snow Lane off of East WT Harris Boulevard on Thursday morning.

Officers responded to a 911 call for an assault with a deadly weapon. They entered the apartment and found Berry suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was pronounced dead by emergency crews on scene.

On Thursday evening, police arrested 34-year-old Jarius Tyrone Henley, who reportedly confessed to Berry's murder. Henley was charged with murder.

Baker has been charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Baker was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where he will remain in custody.
