Anderson mom out of a job, out of hope after car filled with possessions stolen

ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Anderson woman's life has been turned upside down after someone stole her car right out of her driveway.

"This is my life. My identity, my driver's license, my passport, everything I had," said Monica Moraski.

She wants the person who stole her car early Thursday morning to know they took almost everything from her.

For a moment, things were looking up for Moraski. She had a time-sensitive job offer in Greenville, so she had to move immediately. She had sold her other possessions. Her car and everything in it was all she had.

"The stress of moving, especially with a child, is traumatic," she said. "I was about to start a new job, too; and then, to walk outside and not have any of your belongings, you can only imagine, you're left with nothing."

Moraski's clothes, her daughter's clothes, jewelry, her purse and all her identifications were gone. The job she was supposed to take is gone, too.

Authorities in Anderson County believe the car theft happened shortly after a reported shooting just feet away from Moraski's house on Heatherbrook Court in the Heathwood neighborhood, but they do not believe the two incidents are related.

When she walked out of her house around 6 a.m. Thursday, the driveway was empty.

"My alarm did not go off in my car either, and there was no broken glass," said Moraski.

Her neighbors are standing by her.

"I hope whoever got her car will return it back to her, because she's a single parent," said neighbor Joy Black. "She's trying to raise her daughter right, and she's got a toddler."

"Just leave [the car] somewhere so somebody can find it, because that's all she has," Black implored.

Moraski tells us she canceled all the cards that were in the car.

Neighbors say shortly after that shooting, and just before Moraski's car was stolen they saw a man in their driveway. They say he looked to be in his late teens or early 20s.

The missing vehicle is a black 2006 Kia Sportage, with Kia of Greer written on the front plate. Call 1-888-CRIME-SC if you have any information.
