If August 24th was the worst day of Jack Bretz's life, it might be safe to say September 20th was the best.
It was less than a month ago, when doctors delivered the news that Jack had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The cancer is treatable but Jack will have to undergo 3 years of chemotherapy treatments that will cause him to lose his hair.
Back in August, as he was in his hospital room, his brothers from Sigma Phi Epsilon came in and told him he wouldn't fight the battle alone.
The UNC Charlotte fraternity organized a fundraiser centered around shaved heads. It started off a small campaign, but Friday afternoon in front of the student union, it was anything but.
Dozens of brothers sat in groups of 3 in front of the Campus Salon team as the clippers did away with their hair. Jack watched each head go bald with a smile. "It makes you feel good to know that your brothers care that much about you, and they want to help support you through this," Jack said.
The #JACKedup up Shave a Sig fundraiser raised almost $6,000 that will all go to The American Cancer Society.
