The deadline has passed for South Carolina seventh-graders to show proof of the TDAP vaccine.
In the Lowcountry, Friday was the first day school districts started sending students home if they did not have the TDAP vaccine.
In Jasper County, 28 seventh graders had to leave school.
Hampton County sent three students home.
By the end of the school day, Beaufort County had a half dozen left who still needed to get the vaccine.
"What we hope is that the parents of these students will take care of this over the weekend so that the students don't miss any more classroom time than they absolutely have to, this is not the students' responsibility, it's the parents responsibility to make sure this requirement is met," said Jim Foster, Beaufort County School District.
Only students with a medical or religious exemption can opt out of the TDAP requirement.
