Man confesses to east Charlotte homicide, police say

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Charlotte say they found a man fatally shot in an east Charlotte apartment Thursday morning.

The incident was reported at 9:58 a.m. on the 7000 block of Snow Lane off of East WT Harris Boulevard, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Officers responded to a 911 call for an assault with a deadly weapon. They entered the apartment and found the man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medic crews pronounced the man dead on scene. He was identified Thursday afternoon as 27-year-old Zhonton Zhavet Berry.

Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

They were able to identify a suspect and later arrested 34-year-old Jarius Tyrone Henley. Henley is charged with murder. Police said he confessed to the murder.
