A woman was convicted of murder Tuesday for a vehicle accident that happened in 2012. Officials say she had been convicted of driving while impaired three times before.
April Cheri Childers, 37, of Granite Falls, was convicted of felony second degree murder and felony aggravated serious injury by motor vehicle in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.
The crimes occurred in April 2012 in the City of Hickory and involved a fatal collision that occurred on Hwy 127.
Childers was operating a vehicle while under the influence of controlled substances and crossed the center line, colliding with another vehicle.
She had previously been convicted of driving while impaired on May 6, 1997, in Burke County, July 8, 2003 in Caldwell County, and on May 10, 2006 in Catawba County.
Childers was sentenced to no less than 170 months and no more than 216 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction.
She will be taken to the Division of Adult Correction for processing.
