Street paving in Matthews to take place in September, October

Posted: Updated:
MATTHEWS, NC (WBTV) -

Several Town streets will be paved during the months of September and October. Work to be completed includes the addition of handicap ramps, milling, full-depth reclamation and paving.

Blythe Construction, who was the low bidder, will oversee the work on this project.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of October unless inclement weather delays the schedule.

Streets to be repaved include: Sardis Mill Drive, Bideford Court, Lochmeade Lane, Bethwyck Court, Coach Ridge Trail, Joines Drive, Hunting Court, Manor Ridge Drive, Foxlair Court and Forest Trail.

Milling removes the top layer of asphalt from your street. Reclamation grinds up the remaining asphalt and base in the street, mixes it with cement and water, and regrades it.

Not every street needs the reclamation process. A layer of new asphalt is then placed on top. This process results in a new street.

Door hangers will be placed on doors of houses a few days prior to when work will begin.

If you live on these streets, please do not park on the street while work is underway. Work on the streets will be done between 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

The work is part of the Town's Annual Resurfacing Program and will cost $371,800.

If you have questions about the project please call the Matthews Public Works Department at 704-708-1240.
