Teen fatally shot near Livingstone College, temporary lockdown lifted

A Rowan County college campus was on lockdown after a teenager was fatally shot near campus on Monday afternoon.

Livingstone College was placed on temporary lockdown after a deadly shooting at the intersection of W. Horah Street and Institute Street in Salisbury.  This is off-campus, but very close to the college.

WBTV has learned that Abraham Iman Jenkins, 19, was shot and killed at 2:52 p.m. on Monday. Officers say Jenkins died in the driveway of a home along the 1000-block of Institute Street.

Salisbury police are searching for two men who were seen chasing Jenkins on foot.

Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins told WBTV that the shooting happened near the campus, but had "absolutely nothing to do with Livingstone."

Gloria Blaire, the Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety for Livingstone College, says a message was sent out to students about the lockdown.

She said it informed students that there was a shooting near campus and requested that students remain inside until the situation was under control.

The lock down was later lifted.

The Salisbury Police Department is handling the investigation.
