Laps For Life draws hundreds to Speedway

Laps for Life

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - The morning started out under the shadow of a giant American flag draped from opposing ladders of two fire trucks.

The ceremony at Charlotte Motor Speedway was to remember the thousands killed on September 11th, 2001. It was punctuated by the tearful speech made by retired FDNY firefighter David Forland. Forland described the friends he lost that day and how his fellow firefighters remember their fallen brothers each year.

Following the ceremony, fans and patrons came in by the hundreds to give a pint of blood for the Laps for Life program.

Elizabeth Monaco had never given before Wednesday. She was nervous. But she survived the donation saying, "I hardly felt a thing".

All donors received:

  • A ride-along with the NASCAR Racing Experience—Rides will be given in the afternoon/evening
  • Two tickets to Bojangles' Pole Night, Oct. 10, 2013
  • "Laps for Life" commemorative T-shirt
  • A Sports Clips Coupon for a FREE haircut
  • Donor goody bag, including coupons to area businesses
