A teenage boy and his girlfriend are facing charges after deputies say they shot his mother and left her bleeding in the front yard.
According to the Catawba County Sheriff's Office, an off-duty Lincoln County officer was driving along the 6500-block of Old Shelby Road, off of Rhoney Farm Road when he noticed a woman laying down in the front yard of the home around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Deputies say the woman, later identified as Sherry Rhoney, was covered in blood.
Rhoney's teenage son, 17, and his pregnant girlfriend, 16, were home, but told investigators they didn't know what happened.
Rhoney was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) in Charlotte.
Deputies say doctors at CMC realized that Rhoney had been shot. She was able to tell doctors and police that her son, 17-year old Daniel Rhoney, had shot her after an argument where she tried to kick him out of the house.
Investigators then went back to the home and arrested Rhoney and 16-year-old Elizabeth Fowler.
Both are charged with attempted murder by the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.
