Police in Charlotte say they have arrested the man wanted in a car chase Friday afternoon that ended outside the Harris Teeter on Central Avenue.
Carlton Wilson, 26, was arrested in north Charlotte Monday night after a brief foot chase with police, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Wilson has been charged with felony breaking and entering, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, larceny after breaking and entering, safecracking, resisting arrest and other traffic related offenses, police say.
Wilson was driving a stolen SUV from Gaston County Friday afternoon around 2 p.m.
He led law enforcement on a high speed chase into Charlotte, eventually crashing the SUV into a phone pole outside of the new Harris Teeter on Central Avenue.
Police say he hit the pole doing about 60 miles per hour.
Wilson and his passenger, 25-year-old Antwaun Oliphant, jumped and ran from the SUV toward the store.
Oliphant was quickly taken into custody. He was wanted on several outstanding charges.
Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
