Police identify two alleged robbers shot in South Charlotte, one died

Police on Saturday identified the two men accused of trying to rob three people at a South Charlotte apartment complex.

Police say Omari Aiken and Duran Rozzelle targeted three men at the Pinetree Apartments on the 7900 block of Antlers Lane about 10:00 p.m. Friday night. Aiken and Rozzelle allegedly tried to rob the men at gunpoint.

Two of the three victims were able to run off. Police say the third man was assaulted and shots were fired by suspects. One of the two men who ran off then returned to the scene with a gun and fired shots at the two assailants.

Police say Aiken was struck by a bullet and later died at a hospital. Rozzelle was also shot. He fled the scene. Officers later learned a family member drove him to a parking lot at a nearby McDonald's. Rozzelle was eventually found Saturday morning at a hospital in Gastonia. At last check, Rozzelle is still hospitalized Saturday night. Police say he will be taken to the Mecklenburg County Jail on an attempted armed robbery charge, once he's in better health.

The victim who fired shots at the men will not face charges, police say.
