BOONE, NC (WBTV) -

Three men were arrested for panhandling while raising money for a Charlotte ministry, according to a report from the Boone Police Department.

The incident began Tuesday, September 3, when citizens notified police about a group of people that were "aggressively panhandling " in the Boone Mall parking lot.

Officers then located the group and began investigating the incident.

The men, police say, were attempting to raise money for the Miracle House of Hope in Charlotte.

One of the men, John Daniel Neely, 33, gave the officers a false name, and attempted to flee the scene on foot, the report states.

He was caught, arrested, and charged with resisting a public officer, fictitious information to an officer, and a failure to appear warrant.

Neely was given a $1,100 secured bond pending an October 29 court appearance.

The second man arrested, Christopher Dane Herwerth, 22, was charged with a failure to appear warrant. He was given a $500 secured bond, pending a September 27 court appearance.

David William McNebb, 55, was also arrested. He was charged with fictitious information to an officer, and a failure to appear warrant.

McNebb was given a $1,000 secured bond, also pending an October 29 court appearance.
