Man's name released after being fatally hit in uptown Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Charlotte have released the name of a man hit and killed while walking in uptown Charlotte on Tuesday.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, 57-year-old Sandy Ambrose Haynes was struck by a SUV along the 1400 block of West Trade Street on Tuesday around 5:39 p.m.

This is near the intersection of Wesley Heights Way and West Trade Street.

Emergency personnel on the scene pronounced Haynes dead at the scene.

Police say 37-year-old Demorris Carlo Willingham was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer along West Trade Street when Haynes crossed the street and was struck by Willingham's SUV.

Police say Haynes was not crossing in a marked intersection and crossed midblock on W. Trade St.

No charges have been filed at this time, however the crash remains under investigation.
