Murfreesboro firefighters help deliver baby on Labor Day

A group of Murfreesboro firefighters probably had something else in mind when they went to work on Labor Day, but they ended up helping with a very special delivery.

Brooke Dittman went into labor about 10 p.m. Sunday, and in about two hours, before she and husband Chris could get to the hospital, the baby started coming.

"I think I was OK until the 911 dispatcher started explaining to me what to do. Then I started to panic a little bit," Chris Dittman said.

But just three minutes later, the family was met by three Murfreesboro firefighters followed by two Rutherford County EMTs who knew exactly what to do.

They said there was no time to think. They got in the house and went right into action.

Molly Dittman was born at 6 pounds, 14 ounces and perfectly healthy.

Those firefighters might have a bit of an advantage. Between the five of them, they have 20 children, so they're no stranger to those deliveries.
