Deadly shooting in north Charlotte becomes third in 24 hours

Charlotte police officers are investigating a deadly shooting in north Charlotte and say the crime is the third deadly shooting in the city in a 24-hour period.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers were called to the 5400-block of Manning Road around 10:25 p.m. on Sunday night.

When they arrived, officers found the body of a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. 

He was later identified as 32-year-old James David Lockhart.

Lockhart was pronounced dead by medical officials on the scene.

Just after 8:30 p.m. Monday, police confirmed they had arrested three people in relation to the shooting.

Robert Clyde Martin, Richard Alan Payne, and Moises Fraga Puente were all arrested and charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

CMPD is investigating a separate deadly shooting that happened just after midnight on Sunday that happened along the 9200 block of Trinity Road that left one man dead.

Officers are also investigating a deadly shooting that happened around 1:30 a.m. along the 3800 block of Driftwood Drive in east Charlotte. One man was killed in that shooting, another one is hospitalized.

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Real Time Crime Center, and the Vice and Gang Unit responded to the scene.
