CMPD: Power outage caused by car crash

crash causes power outages

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A power outage across South End Friday night was caused by a crash on Wilmore Drive and Summit Avenue.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told WBTV that someone crashed their car into a power pole, then left the vehicle and ran away.

This crash left thousands without power, and as of Saturday morning most of those outages have been repaired.

Police said on Friday night that gunshots may have been fired before the crash.

As of Saturday morning, police say they are not able to determine if that is the case.
