WBTV Speak Out Editorial: Make a Positive Impact at the Polls

Posted: Updated:

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.

Election time is near, and it's time for us to remind you to get out and vote.

Next Tuesday, the 10th, there's a Primary Election for voters in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and many of our surrounding communities.

Unfortunately, many people skip the Primaries, figuring they'll just vote in the "important" General Election in November.

But suppose your candidate doesn't make it past the Primary?

Someone you really think could make a difference.

Someone who truly represents YOU and the way you feel on the issues.

Fail in the Primary, and he or she will not show up on the November ballot.

That could be a terrible waste of potential talent.

Think of all the times you see the Mayor, City Council Members or School Board Members show up in the news.

These people are making decisions that affect your and your children's futures.

Here are just a few of the offices up for grab on Tuesday:

Charlotte Mayor…City Council Members…and Board of Education…

Mayors and Commissioners in Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill, and Pineville.

And many, many more offices across our viewing area.

So please, please head to the polls on Tuesday, September the 10th.

Don't think of it as just your "civic duty."

Think of it as an opportunity to make a positive change for the place YOU live.

Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com
