SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -
On Wednesday a burglar alarm was reported at a residence in the 200 block of Menius Road in China Grove.
Rowan County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at the location at 7:36 a.m., and were told by the victim's 71 years old mother, who lived nearby, that she had chased a suspect from the crawl space door to the woods and almost caught him.
As the victim's mother chased the suspect towards the woods, the suspect turned around and said, "Leave me alone grandmaw, I'm going to school." The victim's mother replied, "Not with that gun you're not."
The victim's mother described the suspect's appearance, clothing, and the observation that he was carrying some type of rifle.
In interviewing the actual victim, it was learned that the victim had a Toyota RAV 4 stolen from her residence the previous week, along with additional items.
Deputies used a K-9 to track the suspect and located a person matching the description provided by the victim's mother and father around one-half mile from the Menius Road location.
The suspect, Joshua Dimitri Clark, 21, of 345 Dulin Avenue in Salisbury, was brought to the scene of the initial incident and identified by the witnesses.
During questioning by deputies, Clark told deputies the location of the stolen Toyota RAV4, which was parked at a vacant house on North Main Street in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Clark also admitted to breaking into the residence on Menius Road, as well as other locations. A shotgun was subsequently recovered by deputies.
Clark was charged with three counts of breaking and entering, one count of larceny, one count of larceny of a firearm, one count of larceny of a motor vehicle, one count of obtaining property by false pretenses, one count of felon in possession of a firearm and a parole violation.
Clark was ordered held with no bond on the parole violation and given a $50,000 secured bond on the other charges.
Clark was released from the North Carolina Department of Corrections in August from a March conviction in Cabarrus County for breaking and entering.
Clark also has a felony conviction in Rowan County in 2010 for felony forgery of an instrument.
