HUNTERSVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

I-77 south is cleared after a bad accident near Exit 25 Sunday evening.

According to NC Highway Patrol, a woman driving an SUV turned around while behind the wheel, asking a child to get back into their car seat. A trooper says that caused the woman to overcorrect, sending her vehicle onto the center median. After the SUV flipped several times, it came to a rest on its roof.

Huntersville Firefighters say all six people inside the vehicle were hurt, the mother and her five children, all under the age of eight. Firefighters say one child was thrown from the SUV. Clothing and car seats were scattered across the grassy median.

Highway Patrol says the mother was charged for not having a license.

Huntersville Fire, Cornelius Fire, North Meck Rescue all responded to the scene. MedCenter Air was called to the scene, but was later canceled.

The southbound lanes of I-77 were closed at least 30 minutes.
