New venue for Southern Women's Show

If location is everything, the Southern Women's Show is hoping its new spot at the Charlotte Convention Center in Uptown will draw more visitors.

"With the changing demographics of Uptown – a lot of working women, a lot of women who are also living in Uptown –this is a prime opportunity to make the move" says Tish Atkins of SouthernShows.

Atkins manages the Southern Women Show. She says the company made the decision to leave the regular venue, Park Expo and Conference Center on Independence Boulevard, at the end of the show last year.

According to organizers, the Southern Women's Show was at the Park Expo since 1990, and drew about 25,000 visitors each year.

Atkins says they decided to change venues this year because they want to attract more professional women.

"A lot of women working uptown may end up going home after work but right now they have the opportunity to pop in after lunch, pop in after hours" says Atkins.

Organizers of the Southern Women's Show say they're expecting the show to return to the Charlotte Convention Center next year.

The SouthernShows' other exhibits - the Ideal Home Show, the Spring Home and Garden Show, and the Christmas Show - will remain at the Park Expo and Conference Center.
