A chase took authorities from I-77 to NoDa. Only WBTV was there at the end, after the suspect crashed into a fence.
A trooper with the NC Highway Patrol tells WBTV the unnamed suspect was driving a rental car 80 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone on I-77 Tuesday night.
When a trooper began pursuing the driver, officers say the man sped up to more than 100 miles per hour before exiting at LaSalle Street.
Troopers say the driver then crashed into a vehicle at an intersection moments before crashing through a fence on a woman's property on Justice Avenue.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the man jumped out of the car and ran.
"I heard them and that's when I came outside and saw they were in my yard and the policeman told me what happened," homeowner Maggie Colman said.
Antone Sloan was arrested and charged.
Police caught the suspect a short time later. He is facing 12 charges. Officers said he is a convicted felon. Troopers said they suspected he had a gun in his vehicle but they were not able to find one.
