Classic car museum takes you for a ride back in time

As you walk into Paramount Classic Cars in Hickory, you are immediately surrounded by the sights and sound of America's past.

Along with classic cars, the entryway features celebrity faces from the 1950s and beyond.

"They all remember Burt Reynolds or Paul Newman in this movie or that movie, and it starts to get them in a frame of mind that they are transitioning back in time," Benny Yout said.

Yount opened the classic car museum to the public in the spring.

His collection offers more than 100 cars on display.

The cars range from the 1920s to modern day.

Yount's favorite is the mint condition 1958 Corvette.
"1958 it was the only year where they had the options of having the custom hood and the option of having the fins on the deck lid, so it made it pretty neat. You don't see that on any other Corvette in that era," Yount said.

The car's value is approximately $200,000.

The Paramount collection also features a replica of the James Dean's Porsche Spider.

But don't be fooled, Paramount's collection is not all about speed.

It has something for every taste and every era.

It features a classic 1929 Model-A truck and a beautiful baby blue 1957 Chevrolet Bell Air Convertible.

They are cars that reflect America's history.

And for Benny Yount, who started the collection with a modest 1960 MGA, the collection is proof that the American dream is alive and well.

"To me it is sort of the American dream come true."

Paramount's collection also includes a car that was actually used in the original Dukes of Hazard TV series.

The museum is open to the public Monday through Saturday.
